Our top prize for the cake with the most public votes went to Flora Fejes.
Flora’s cake collected an amazing 2,112 votes! Flora made this Vintage Cake for a cake decoration exam and used a variety of techniques including lace work and hand painting.
Congratulations Flora, we hope you enjoy spending your £150 voucher!
We asked Squires Kitchen International School resident tutor, Mark Tilling, to pick his personal favourites and each person has won a Squires Kitchen £25 gift voucher. Here's what Mark said:
This giraffe looks so realistic and the proportions are spot-on. It’s a difficult cake to construct effectively because it’s so tall. Hats off to Kate!
I spotted a few versions of BB-8 in the competition entries, which appealed to me as I’m a big fan of Star Wars. This one was my favourite as they really nailed it. It’s very tricky to achieve a spherical cake, not to mention balancing a hemisphere on top.
I chose this one before I noticed that it had my name on it, I promise! I’m a big barbecue fan so it caught my eye. There are some nice touches on this design like the searing of the meat, and I thought the flames were portrayed very effectively.
Congratulations to our five lucky prize draw winners who each managed to collect over 50 votes with their fantastic entries.
Wedding cake by Caroline Wilson. Caroline said “This is the only wedding cake I have done this year, vanilla, red velvet and white chocolate buttercream and rich fruit cake. It was an honour to do as I also made the couples engagement cake last year.”
Summer Madness by Jacqueline van der Wal made together with best friend Petra Arnold.
Mexican theme cake by Lorea Acebes inspired by the Oaxacan culture (alebrijes, black ceramic and nature).
Jo Cavanagh made this cake for her best friend's mother in law, who was turning 70. Jo said “She is a seamstress, and she is always so generous with her time and skills, making everyone in the family anything they need out of fabric - she's even made a bag for my birthday, commissioned by my friend! I loved adding all the details to this cake, and the colour palette is so bright and fun, it makes me happy.”
Shopkins 'Strawberry Kiss' by Jolee Jenkins. Jolee said “I made this cake for my niece’s birthday last month. It’s sponge cake with bubble-gum flavour buttercream. I love seeing the kids faces light up when they see their cake!”
